Just a few hours after Coach Bo Perasol's resignation as the head tactician of the UP Fighting Maroons men's basketball team, two names were popped out in the shortlist as the possible replacement for Perasol.
Reports came out that multi-titled high school coach Goldwin Monteverde and Gilas Pilipinas Women's head coach Patrick Aquino are part of Coach Bo's shortlist submitted to the top honchos of the country's premier university to become the next mentor of the Diliman-based team.
Aquino, who is also the assistant coach of PBA's Blackwater Bossing, said that he was surprised upon seeing the articles that he is considered for the head coaching job. He also wished Coach Bo, the best of luck on his future undertakings in the basketball scene.
"Yes. I'm surprised of course, definitely. I'm not considering myself to be (part) sa shortlist nila. I'm happy and honored na kinoconsider nila ako to become the next head coach of the UP Basketball Team. I'm just surprised also what happen to Coach Bo, hopefully he will continue with what he's doing good, wished him the best and all the future endeavors na gagawin niya.", Aquino said during the interview with Sports Bytes' Brian Yalung yesterday.
If ever picked, Aquino said that he is excited and hoping to helmed the collegiate squad, which is a new challenge for him considering that he's an alumnus of UP. But he pointed out that there is still a long and hard process in choosing Perasol's replacement.
"I'm just happy na talagang kinokonsider nila ako, siyempre it's a great honor coaching UP, especially it's my alma mater from kinder hanggang college. Excited if ever na mapili tayo. But it's still a long process. Ang hirap i-follow ang ginagawa ni Coach Bo. It's gonna be hard whoever's the next coach of UP. So hopefully, kung sino man yung head coach, sana magpapatuloy yung ginawa ni Coach Bo.", Aquino ended.
