Reyes, Ninobla shines in Global Taekwondo tilt

SEA Games gold medalists Rodolfo Reyes, Jr. and Jocel Lyn Ninobla led the Philippines’ domination in the 2021 Global Taekwondo Online Championships held last weekend.

Two months after their bronze medal win in the Asian Open in Lebanon, the former UST poomsae duo ruled their respective categories in the Recognized Poomsae division.

Reyes, topped the Senior Male Blackbelt finals, after tallied a score of 8.033, beating fellow SEA Games medalist Rico Mella, and Western Visayas bets Ceanne Rosquillo and Alfie Diasnes, as well as 4 more international finalists.

Gold – Rodolfo Reyes, Jr. (Philippines) – 8.033

Silver – Raphael Enrico Mella (Philippines) – 7.767

Bronze – Ceanne Kyle Rosquillo (Philippines) – 7.583

Bronze – Alfie Diasnes (Philippines) – 7.500

Ninobla, on the other hand, salvaged the gold in the Senior Female Blackbelt final with a 8.033 outing. UAAP MVP Angelica Gaw copped the silver, while Mahtab Taji Rostamabadi of Iran and SEA Games silver medalist Rinna Babanto settled for the bronze.

Bronze – Mahtab Taji Rostamabadi (Iran) – 7.967

Bronze – Rinna Babanto (Philippines) – 7.800

The event will be resume next weekend with Kyorugi national team members led by Pauline Lopez spearheaded the country’s campaign in the Speed Kicking event.

More than 3,000 jins from 23 countries including host Philippines, Korea, US, Spain, Singapore, Venezuela, Indonesia, Bahrain, Canada, among others joined the second installment of the online competition organized by the Philippine Taekwondo Association, which is aims to further strengthen the jins’ competitiveness in online activities and to keep fit and active once local face-to-face competitions are resumed during the ongoing pandemic.
