NBA: Clippers down Lakers; Raptors win over Zion-less Pelicans in opening night

The NBA opened up their 2019-2020 season with the defending champions Toronto Raptors prevailing over the New Orleans Pelicans in overtime. In the battle of Los Angeles, Clippers take down the Lakers.

Raptors got their championship rings to open the NBA season and immediately went to work by beating the Pelicans, 130-122, in overtime fashion.

Pashal Siakam showed that he got next providing 34 points, 18 rebounds and five assists while Fred VanVleet chipped in with his own 34-point night along with seven dimes and five boards. Kyle Lowry provided the crucial plays in crunch time finishing the night with 22 points, six assists and five rebounds.

In a valiant effort, Brandon Ingram was the top scorer of the Pelicans with 22 points. New Orleans will be without the 2019 first overall pick Zion Willamson for a minimum of six weeks.

The second game of the night belonged to the Kawhi Leonard infused LA Clippers prevailing over their city rivals.

Leonard opened the season with a 30-point night and added six rebounds and five assists. He had help from Lou Williams scoring 21 points and dished out seven assists while Montrezl Harrell added the needed boost in the second half and finished the game with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Paul George is ruled out for the entire month of October with no target date of return yet in November.
